Yikes

OK, actually I wasn’t really a big fan of Camper Van Beethoven back in the day. I never really forgave them for doing novelty-country covers of Sonic Youth songs, when I saw them open for R.E.M. that one time. They were also really gung-ho about psychedelic drugs in that way that gets really annoying (and there are other, non-annoying ways available–;for example, you always knew the Butthole Surfers were total waste products, but they never acted as though you had to applaud them for it). All that said, their music has aged surprisingly well (certainly preferable to MOR crapmeisters Cracker) and I find myself enjoying an occasional listen to “Take the Skinheads Bowling” or even “Good Guys & Bad Guys” these days. It’s especially nice to see that their unquestionable masterpiece, the re-recording of “Tusk” by Fleetwood Mac is available. As with the original, the title track is the best thing about this. The drum programming alone is genius.

From Bacon to Soap

“I woke up breakfast and then all of a sudden, someone threw poison all over me, beat me with a wooden spoon and left me out to dry for three weeks. What the fuck!”
