meebo experiment

So, I recently found out about meebo.com, which offers a really hot DHTML interface to a variety of IM networks. I suppose the real customer for this would be people who find themselves online somewhere (such as at work or at a public terminal) where IM ports are blocked, or they don’t have the authority to install client software. This doesn’t really apply to me, as I am already able to use the fine multi-protocol clients Adium at home, and Gaim at work, without any difficulty.

One feature I did find intriguing, however, is the ability to embed a little flash widget in any web page through which visitors can chat with you at your meebo account. This seems like kind of a neat idea, and since I’ve been thinking for awhile that one of the problems in my life is “not enough random IMs from people” I figured I’d give it a whirl. Obviously, that’s it over there on the right of this here blog page. Since I need to keep a separate browser window open to be logged into meebo, I can’t promise that I’ll be found online a lot, but if the light is green, do feel free to ping me.

UPDATE: eh, not such a hot idea. The one time anyone tried to chat w/ me through the widget, I was online and at my computer, but didn’t notice until it was too late and they’d gone away. (If that was you, um, sorry about that.) And plus the widget looks dumb on my page. I made it go away now. I don’t know what I was thinking.

More silly video of the internets!

OK, so I know I’ve been a little hyper about blogging YouTube thingos lately, so since I’m going to go ahead and do one more, I’m just going to link rather than embed. When I was told I was going to see a video of a dog skateboarding, I figured it would be the usual sort of thing of a dog, like, standing on a skateboard while a human pulled him around by a rope, or pushed him down a hill or something. But no, this dog actually pushes the skateboard and jumps on, like a real skater. And then he can to turns and everything. It’s totally a rad skater dog. I encourage you to check it out.
