Broken Angel

Hmm, it must be my day to blog about arty stuff – this NYT article about Arthur Wood’s outsider architectural work really grabbed me. The Times story is about efforts to save the building from being condemned and bring it up to NYC code while preserving the eccentric sculptural effects; it’s worth a read, and the accompanying slide show is well worth a look.

After reading this, I found there are a lot of shots of it on Flickr if you browse the ‘brokenangel’ tag, which includes a very compelling set of photos and words by the Wood’s son Christopher.

Super awesome!

“SE:30 Welcome to the 20th century back!” is an installation built on 20 old Apple Macintosh SE/30 computers, a sort of giant, networked display hack by Code 31 based on cellular automatic algorithms. In addition to reading a description of the project means and goals, you can check out an image gallery, and streaming QuickTime movie.

I am just really, really into this.
