This broke my squee-o-meter
Sure, there have been cute things on the internets before. But trust me when I tell you this is cuter than the cutest thing ever, and then some. This is, like, an entirely new dimension in cuteness.
Ladies and gentlemen… otters. holding. hands.

Call it TwitterFic (not to be confused with Twitterific which is also very cool, of course).
There’s probably other people doing this sort of thing, but the one I know of, and that I like the best, is notmydesk, who uses all 140 characters in every tweet, and always ENDS WITH A CLIFFHANGER!

Not long ago I wrote about how much I was liking certain new apps on my Mac. I was just thinking about doing another similar sort of post, this time about Path Finder–;with maybe a little a bit about using triggers in Quicksilver. Now, it’s true that have just discovered these little tidbits of functionality lately, and that they have added some enjoyment to my life. I heartily endorse both to all my Mac-using friends.
But the thing is, as I was thinking about doing this as another sort of little software review, it struck me that there is something else going on here, that is a bit harder to pin down, but really more interesting. The last few months is the first time I’ve gotten to use a Mac all the time, for both personal and work needs. I haven’t had to use Windows much at all, other than for running ER/Studio, which I do in a virtual machine. Until recently I used a Windows machine for work, and kept a Mac at home. Now both my work and home machines are Macs, and in fact I end up doing a lot with just the work laptop, even outside of normal business hours. I think the thing I am beginning to experience, at a level or to a degree that I never knew before, is how much the user interaction with a Mac can become this specific and personal thing, as it were keyed to one’s own individual preferences. Having reached this state, I find the computer a much friendlier and more useful tool. I’ve always been a big tweaker and customizer with any machine I’m on. Where in the past that’s had a kind of circular compulsive aspect, tweaking for the sake of tweaking, lately I seem to be getting somewhere, and seeing some real gains in capability as a result of my efforts. While I credit that somewhat to Apple and to great software that’s being developed on the Mac platform, I suppose one could probably experience the same thing with another OS just from using the same machine all the time and caring about it a lot, which I haven’t really done until now.
The thing is, it really does make using a computer (which I’m, you know, going to be doing a lot of the time anyway) much more fun and enjoyable.
