the Lunar (sock) landscape! or, bloggy friends in three dimensions!
How auspicious Saturday was! It was a Grand Day Out!
You meet bloggers on the internet, and then you meet them in real life, and they are every bit as cool as you imagined them to be, and then some! Because you have the bonus of color, texture, sound, animation, and visual splendor! Oh, yes, dear readers, I'm talking about none other than the girl with the yarn-stealing dawgs, Cari! Who is in town for a month to work on her new novel (look for the eagerly awaited first novel any minute now. The world stands on the verge of being clued in to what we her blog readers know to be true, so look out! Because its gonna be big! We can only hope she continues to answer our emails when the book tour is in full swing- go to Dogs Steal Yarn for details!) at Ragdale. (I've put links before, but Cari has photos, go see, go see!) And who the multi-talented (she knits, she spins, she quilts, she speaks French, knows Latin, swears quite a bit, and manages to survive in the deepest-some might say darkest!-heart of corporate america with remarkable aplomb! All the while maintaining impeccable style, wit, and seriously cute hair! And plus if I were a boy-or inclined, romantically towards girls- I would want Carolyn for my very own! And she would take no crap from me! Because that's how she is! Very cool.) Carolyn and I met Cari at the Metra train on Saturday morning. It was a day of perusing yarn stores, talking the girl talk, laughing quite a bit, looking at projects (and me getting much-needed advice and validation for Agnes, the Sweater Only a Mother Could Love, more about her progress later) and tearing around the far flung Chicago yarn store tour in buses and taxis.
And finally a mad scramble to get Cari back to the Metra train, in the rain, and the hail (hail! Golf-ball size!!Pelting our ears!) to get back to Lake Forest. Laughing in the rain with girlfriends, boots going squish, squish, squish! When the rain let up, we glimpsed the faintest of rainbows from the Belmont platform.
At Knitting Workshop I got 2 new skeins of Noro Kureyon for Agnes, in a similar colorway which seems to not clash horribly. Agnes should be interesting, just crazy looking enough but not ridiculous. Last night, watching tv I finished the left front and sewed in all the ends. So we are making progress!
Someday I will have visuals. Really, really.

I'm from Chicago and was wondering what wonderful yarn stores you ventured into? I'm always looking for more and would be happy to compare lists. Thanks! Chae

Hi Chae!
The yarn stores we went to were Knitting Workshop on Lincoln and Nina on Division near Damen. We tried to go to Arcadia Knitting on Lawrence/Ashland but they weren't open yet. Just fyi, they open at 12:00 on Saturday, we found out!
There are more~ but those are the ones we got to, and those are the 3 I generally go to.
Thanks for commenting!
