peeker

Lucia, she peek at you.
Lucia_peeker.jpg
Those purple things are not headphones, but sun protection, as its summertime and a baby's got to stay cool. Even while still relaxing in one's private spa. Are you digging the finger action? I am.
And digging the whole auntie experience which is surprisingly intense.
The child has got strange powers!
Last night we went to see her. Patting her head I feel the strange sensation, what can it be? Happy happy brain chemicals, and I think it is a very simple thing- sheer love.
There's more to this whole process of comings and goings of spirits in their earthly incarnations than we know. Higher purposes are revealed in these moments. I've said it before and I'll say it again, strange and wonderful.

A tiny update

Yesterday I saw the new little (string) bean. She is, indeed, teeny-tiny, but pink as anything, and having a nice little spa treatment in her personal sauna, you betcha! It seems to me, and to everyone involved, that if anyone is going to be just fine, it is Lucia (nickname I already call her). Really, she weighs almost 3 pounds, and is long and tall, with the fingers of a really excellent guitarist. Because she's ready to rock n roll, believe it.
She and I held hands for some time, through the porthole in the baby-sauna. The pinky finger alone is proof that life is indeed strange (in a good way) and wonderful, and that impossibly tiny things will chug on under a mysterious power all their own. She is a very delicate and willful sea creature. Don't be fooled!
She's an awesome force.
My brother swears she has a visible golden halo.
Let that be a lesson to you, boys -and you know who you are, you fatherhood's-not-for-me types, not that this was my bro- you will find yourselves transformed by a brand new kind of love you never could have anticipated. Maybe you've heard it before but I've seen it in action. Not that you should listen to the woman with the audibly ticking biological time bomb, but I'm just sayin'. I seem to be the transition girl who facilitates other people's getting married to people other than me, so maybe I can inspire some more. Please keep me apprised of developments. Maybe I have a unique money-making business opportunity with my skills.
Anyhow, this is a happy day.
Later on I may be headed down to the International Mr. Leather event, oh yes, to watch the daddy bears, boys in chaps and boys in kilts! Only one of whom may be marginally interested in someone like me. But still, how I love to see the bears! Oh, its a long and sordid tale!
And this evening is our ride, ah yes, Critical Mass. For some reason a Huck Finn theme has been suggested, having something to do with donuts. Unfortunately I gave away my last pair of overalls to the Brown Elephant, I'm pretty sure.
Right now I'm staying at my bro/sil's while they are at the hospital with the little one, and looking after Marcel's cousin Sidney and two confused cats. Its rather a happy little zoo over here, especially this morning. Let me tell you what we did! Sid and I got up at 6:00 am and decided to have a leisurely stroll, sniff the flowers, chase the squirrels, that kind of thing. Oh, and roll in dog crap while Pippy is spacing out. Thus, at 6:30 am, after attempts at cleaning said putrid matter from the dog's fur with wet paper towels (omg, the foulness!! It was ungodly!!), Sid found herself in the tub. And you know how little dawgs love the tub. Luckily I did it in such a way that she never saw it coming until she was in there, and damp, and making a Profoundly Sad Face.
This is what happens when we roll in things! What do you think of it?? We had to wash her brand new leopard-spotted collar as well. Eeeew.
Thus, after shaking water and hair over every surface of the bathroom, there were the inevitable little dawg celebratory victory laps, nails scraping crazily on the wood floors because look out! A slightly damp pug/pomeranian was completely unhinged!!! Whoa. It was something to behold.
After some coffee we went back to bed.
More later.

Call me Aunt Pippy!

My niece was born today, 10 weeks prematurely, at some ungodly hour of the morning, but from all reports baby and mom are both doing fine! The working title up until now had been Lucy Padrice, so until further notice, my niece Lucy weighs 2 pounds some ounces which I am unsure of because the news made me so giddy! Congratulations Thomas and Lorie!!!
Pictures soon!

good pata weather

Yesterday was a perfect day for knitting outside in the garden and warming one's patas in the sun.

patas.JPG

I was working on the new pink Chickami that I am making with the Rowan Calmer. Which does seem to have a soothing effect, and live up to its name. On the bus, going to and coming from my interview, I got quite a bit done. Imagine the feats of knitting I would accomplish if I had a total 4 hour commute to work and back every day. Omg.
The suburbs proved maybe a teeny bit less hellish than I had imagined. Hellish nonetheless but the bus stop wasn't as in the middle of nowhere as I had pictured. In fact, it was on a busy street, but not a highway (I still would not have wanted to be riding my bike there, egads) which had a crosswalk, but no sidewalks. Go figure.
It occurred to me that the point might be in some cases one might have to walk from one vast parking lot to another. Not sure why when you could drive.
In any event, I digress.
Oh yeah, and the interview went well.
So who knows.

Meanwhile, back in the garden.
The irises are looking splendid.

There are some very sassy little cement friends out there.

And plus, have you seen my wiener?

wiener_dawg.JPG

Omg, that's so juvenile. A thousand apologies.
I couldn't help myself.

calmer-sort of

Its awfully nice but why do they call it Calmer anyway?
calmer_jamal2.JPG

This is what Jamal and I are wondering.
calmer_jamal.JPG

But anyway, the time was nigh for the Calmer because I have a job interview tomorrow. And thus am feeling slightly rattled. So it was rather relaxing to go see the nice ladies at Arcadia Knitting yesterday afternoon, on my way over to Marcel's.
Pretty, pretty Calmer. It actually is more pink than red. The first Chickami came out so nice I decided to make another.

calmer.JPG

Oh yeah. I said job interview. Ok?
Don't congratulate me just yet because its at the End of the Earth. Yes, the darkest heart of hellish suburbia, thus tomorrow I will be the lone pedestrian freak navigating acres of parking lots, believe me, I've seen it before. You get off the bus (which only freaks ride the bus in suburbia) and then maybe a bus will come to take you back to civilization in a few hours or so. Or maybe not. Maybe you get to sit and watch cars go by and contemplate global warming and the demise of polar bears and melting glaciers and rising ocean temperatures, for some time until you think you are going to lose your mind.
Oh, its such a bad idea, but I've resigned to going because it is an opportunity to get a cubicle of one's own.
And hey, that's a lot better than food service.
I really don't mean to be so cranky, really.
Ok, I'll stop now.

chickami is fini

At last! Who ever thought it would happen?
The chickami is done, and it fits. The only thing is it hasn't been blocked, but I am so excited that its done, because I really honestly thought I would never ever finish all the stockinette stitching and i-cord. There's a lot of both of those things involved.

I didn't feel like modeling, but here it is, in all its blackness, from the front
chickami1.JPG

and here is is from the side
chickami2.JPG

Not so visually stimulating, I guess. But hey, in the second one you can see the stitching a little better. Plus have I said lately that Rowan Wool Cotton is so nice? I would like to eat it with a spoon for 3 meals every day. I would, I really would.

Today on my way to Marcel's I saw Guardian Angel Gerry,(who is something of a mystery and pops up everywhere and always at the unlikeliest times. Once he walked Marcel and I home in the rain, when I was crying. Every neighborhood I move to he moves to. I consider him a mysterious gift from the universe and don't question it too much beyond that. He is a real person though, and really named Gerry. And has a moustache which is silver and curly and will convince you, even if nothing else will, that he is an otherworldly being.) and then later I looked down and there was a rabbit not 2 feet from the sidewalk where I was walking. At the time I saw the rabbit I was carrying coffee and a muffin was in my pocket, so you know it had to be a good sign. Its amazing how sometimes things all fall into alignment like that.

another one

birdy_painting.JPG

Some people don't notice the shoes at first.
How can a little birdy not do a Pee-Wee dance in those things?
Well, its not possible! Especially in light of all the petunias.
Hope you enjoy!

Alleys, Rallies ~ Happy May Day!

Gosh, it was quite a day.
On my way to John's, I couldn't help but be delayed!
Moving season is upon us, and an excellent junk pile beckoned.
What could I do?

Here is some of what I brought home~

alley_haul1.JPG

Its hard to see all the splendor, but I got 2 paper lamps, one lovely Chinese lantern, an unopened roll of Christmas ribbon, a book of essays about marriage and sex, some unused letterpressed Christmas cards with a recipe for fruitcake on them, a cute little unused plastic jar, a pile of unused little-bitty envelopes, and a new brown t-shirt with an elephant that says death cab for cutie on it.

alley_haul2.JPG

Oh, and I got an iron, which was practically new, as well as a cloth grocery bag which is apparently made of hi-techy biodegradable stuff, I know this because the young woman whose garbage I was pawing through came out and chatted for awhile. She was nice. She said she wished I could take the couch before it got rained on.

Oh! And here is the piece de resistance! My favorite thing that I found, in a different, equally interesting garbage heap, Marcel is still not sure how he feels about the..

pirate_sword.JPG

plastic pirate sword! Avast ye sqwabs!!! Omg. I love it so much.

Later, The Big Dawg and I attended the massive May Day rally for the rights of immigrants downtown.
It was quite overwhelming! Lots of flags, lots of families! I found a Mexican flag on the ground, swooped it up and was the palest Mexican for miles but chanted "si se puede!" loudly, you betcha!

And then there was this guy~

sombrero_guy.JPG

who led the crowd singing popular songs in Spanish, and had real cacti impaled to the top of his sombrero. Truly, his 'stache was awe-inspiring. He saw me staring and struck this pose for my camera.

There were in fact many sombreros in the crowd, and there is something I like so much about sombreros, but it was hard to get pictures. The Big Dawg and I took turns walking my bicycle, and it was muddy in the park, so one had to watch one's step!

In general I am not such a fan of flag waving, but there were some nice photo-moments to be found, like this one~

tres_flags.JPG

My ancestral lands were represented as well~

imagine image of Irish flag here because mine won't show up

Polish.JPG

Boston was also represented! Introducing, for your viewing pleasure~
ladies and germs, a warm Knit-A-Log welcome if you please for
