Time, having lost all meaning, seems to be making a comeback

Part of it has to do with winter-

And the darkness that makes you hibernate. It makes pretty pictures on my windows though, which sometimes I have to photograph twice because I like them so much

Then there was this rather frantic and simultaneously very dark period of applying for things- one was not as unpleasant a chore as the other as I have applied for another residency at Ragdale- which makes me think of summer and long walks in the prairie and plants that talk- if you listen- and grasshoppers that stick to the underside of one's skirt. In between working with a level of concentration which is difficult to achieve in any other setting, its somewhat mysterious. The other application was to a vast and mysterious institution whose name I dare not mention for fear in general and for fear of jinxing my chances- which is funny because they almost killed me off with their application and thus have me re-thinking the whole idea anyway- but it required a rather dogged degree of determination, after which I found myself somewhat adrift. And plus its not over yet but I am trying not to think about it.

And thus, beginning to recover my brane and at a loss for knitting projects I find myself making this-

I had a lot of odd bits of cotton in all different colors which got used. You can wash with it but it will also ward off the evil eye.

Spring is so far off and with that in mind I am also thinking of scarves and socks and things- in addition to my latest obsession which is contemplating the end of civilization and what that would mean- its easy to get apocalyptic this time of year, I think. Not to bring anyone down! Ok, here we are thinking cheerful thoughts-
I got a skein of Malabrigo for 40% off- a kind of light reddish brown which matches a brown in another leftover skein. Such a happy scarf it will be, when I find a good pattern.

Oh, and I found this in a box of old matchbox cars that belonged to the Big Dawg from his childhood and it broke my heart into little pieces all over again but I love it and thought I would share-

(Yes, that is my cluttered and filthy desk underneath!)

Tonight Oso and I are going to the opera for my birthday and because its Doctor Atomic, which should be interesting, and edifying. More later.

Oh wow, John Adams. That should be way cool. I have a CD of Nixon in China that I lovelovelove.

Doctor Atomic was stunning, and so is that cool ward off the evil eye wash cloth, and you.

I was worried that you quit the knit-a-log. Good luck with the vast and mysterious institution whose name you dare not mention, and Ragdale.

And the Apocalypse- everybody's gonna need a little luck with that one.
